Oh no! Andra Day performed the National Anthem at the first NFL game of the year between the Carolina Panthers and the Denver Broncos. Unfortunately, hundreds of fans didn’t like the way she riffed on the American classic, and took to Twitter to bash her. See for yourself, here.
Yikes! We thought stunning vocalist Andra Day gave a pretty amazing performance of the National Anthem (aside from a flat note or two, but hey, Denver is a mile high and that’s gotta be tough!). However, it appears that fans on Twitter weren’t half as impressed, and hated how she adjusted the song to match her soulful style of singing.
And that’s not all they hated. Fans mocked her singing AND her outfit. We thought she looked lovely rocking a pair of overalls over a white sweater, topped off with bright red lipstick and a head scarf that we thought hearkened back to the time of Rosie The Riveter, but fans said she reminded them a little more of Aunt Jemima. How rude!
Here are some of the nasty tweets about Andra’s performance and look:
you sucked….muted my television.

However, some people LOVED Andra, and hated that Broncos linebacker Brandon Marshall knelt during the performance rather than standing and putting his hand over his heart. Clearly he was inspired by Colin Kaepernick, the 49ers QB who has been refusing to stand for the anthem throughout the preseason, but fans are hurt that he would do this even when an African-American R&B singer is belting out the song.
Aaand of course, some had a problem with both because people will always find a way to be haters.
