This is so inspiring! 19-year-old Reshma Quereshi will take over the runway at New York Fashion Week, but she’s no ordinary model! The Indian girl was the victim of an acid attack that left her face disfigured, and she’s taking to the catwalk to raise awareness. We have all the details, here.
Reshma Quereshi was just 17 years old when three men held her down and dumped acid on her face on her way to school. The attack was meant for Reshma’s sister after she took her son away from her husband, but it left Reshma severely burned and with only one eye. Unfortunately disgusting crimes like this happen multiple times a day in India, and now Reshma is trying to raise awareness in the most bad-ass way possible!
That’s why the now-19-year-old will be taking the runway TWICE at New York Fashion Week. First she’ll walk for designer Archana Kochhar, FTL Moda President Llaria Niccolini told ABC News. Archana’s designs are luxurious and fancy, and because Reshma grew up poor she thinks it will be a cool juxtaposition .”We love the idea of combining these two worlds to see how they can work together and send a message,” Llaria said.
During her second walk, Reshma will rock Vaishali Couture’s designs. The Indian fashion house is considered one of the most significant fashion lines in the country for its luxe custom designs. Llaria says that the outfit Reshma wears will be very “special.” We can’t wait to see it!
FTL Moda recently launched it’s #TakeBeautyBack campaign, which is working with Reshma in collaboration with the Global Disability Inclusion and Fashion Week Online. Together, they hope to stop similar acid attacks from happening. We will even get to see the full adventure in a new documentary. You go girl, we’ll be rooting for you!
