Zayn Malik’s battle with anxiety just took a turn for the worse — he recently cancelled an upcoming gig because he’s not ‘confident’ enough to perform — so HollywoodLife.com reached out to an expert to find out what the singer can do to overcome his illness.
Zayn Malik‘s battle with anxiety seems pretty serious, especially if he’s cancelling concerts over it. But thankfully, a professional doctor tells HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY that there may be hope for the former boy band singer.
“Panic attacks and anxiety can be treated with psychotherapy, which involves speaking with a professional and getting to the root cause of the original trauma. This would involve working with a psychotherapist an ongoing basis. It is important to receive ongoing professional support. Certain anti-anxiety medications can be helpful such as Klonipin, Valium, Xanax and Ativan. However, these can be addicting and have other side effects like drowsiness, fatigue and attention problems,” Dr. Bruce Lee, M.D. tells HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY. “Antidepressants, such as Zoloft and Paxil can also help. These medications work on the neurotransmitter Serotonin, which controls mood.”
We’re not completely sure what Zayn’s plan of action is, but we certainly hope he seeks the help he needs. As we previously told you, he cancelled a concert, which was set to take place at Dubai’s Autism Rocks Arena on Oct. 7, due to his illness. He then released a statement, apologizing to his fans.
“Dear Fans I have been working over the last three months to overcome my extreme anxiety around major live solo performances I feel I am making progress but I have today acknowledged that I do not feel sufficiently confident to move forward with the planned show in Dubai in October,” he wrote in his announcement. “I am truly sorry to disappoint you. I hope to see you all soon.”
So sad. We’re keeping Zayn in our thoughts at this time.
