New music from Sia is here! The singer gave her fans a treat on Labor Day by releasing a new song called ‘The Greatest,’ featuring Kendrick Lamar — and she threw in the music video, too. Watch here!
It’s no surprise that Dance Moms star Maddie Ziegler, 13, is the star of Sia’s new video, and she once again takes on a dark role in the clip for “The Greatest”. This time, the teenager wears nothing but a dark gray leotard, dark black wig and streaks of facepaint on her cheeks as she leads a group of children out from behind bars and into a deserted house.
Actually, Sia and Kendrick Lamar, 29, don’t even appear in the footage, as Maddie leads the way. She exudes emotion and shows off her amazing dance skills before eventually collapsing to the ground along with the other children. In the end, we see a closeup shot of the 13-year-old’s face with tears streaming down.
Although Sia didn’t give much detail into her inspiration behind the video, one fan online may have cracked the code — and if their theory is right, it’s super emotional. “I really think the video is inspired by the Orlando Pulse shooting,” the user wrote on a message board. “There’s 49 dancers. At the beginning, Maddie wipes the rainbow tears down her eyes. Then she looks tormented and starts to cry. She wakes up the dead bodies (the victims) and reminds them “don’t give up” and that they are “the greatest.” At the end, they’re all dancing together in the warehouse with the disco balls before falling down, like they’re dead. The wall behind them looks like there’s been bullets shot through them.” WOW!
HollywoodLifers, what do you think of the video for “The Greatest”? Are you loving the song?
