Patrick Dempsey doesn’t talk about ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ that often, but when he does, he reveals big things. The ‘Bridget Jones’s Baby’ star picked his favorite episode of the show! Yes, really.
“That’s hard — there were 250 episodes I was in over 10 years,” Patrick, 50, said during a Facebook Live interview with Cosmopolitan UK. “I have to say my favorite really was the pilot because we didn’t know what was going to happen, and then there was that sense of discovery. When I saw it for the first time, I thought the music was incredible and it was fun to be a part of such a strong ensemble. That was special… That first season was really remarkable.”
Patrick’s character, Dr. Derek Shepherd, was shockingly killed off in season 11 after getting into a tragic car accident. Despite the jaw-dropping end to his beloved character, Patrick has nothing but love for the show he called home for over a decade.
“It was an incredible ride,” he added. “I’m very grateful for the opportunity and what it’s given me. And [fans] still continue to love it. It’s nice to see that it’s continued to do well.”
Don’t get your hopes up that Derek could somehow come back to life on Grey’s Anatomy. Derek is dead. Like, really dead. “People keep asking me to come back to life and come back to the show,” he said. “I think, unfortunately, he has passed.”
Bridget Jones’s Baby, which comes out Sept. 16, is Patrick’s first role since leaving Grey’s Anatomy. He stars alongside Renee Zellweger, 47, and Colin Firth, 55, in the romantic comedy. Patrick may be focusing on movies and racing for the time being, he’s still open to returning to television at some point!
