The horror of finding JonBenet Ramsey strangled to death still weighs heavily on her father, John Ramsey, even 20 years after the 6-year-old beauty queen was killed. While speaking on the tragedy, John admitted that his grief got so intense that he wanted to die.
“Death would have been a welcomed relief from the pain and agony I felt,” John Ramsey, 72, said during an interview in the documentary, The Killing of JonBenét: The Truth Uncovered, which premiered on Sept. 6 on A&E, per ABC News. Two decades after JonBenet was found dead in her parents’ basement, John still feels heartbroken over the tragedy.
“We keep our curtains closed,” he said. “Our doors and windows are locked. Going anywhere is a major organized and planned operation. We get people coming to the door claiming to have information that can be helpful in the case.”
If the pain of losing a daughter wasn’t bad enough, John and his wife, Patsy Ramsey (who passed away in 2006), were considered possible suspects. Barbara Walters, 86, flat out asked him if he murdered JonBenet in a 2000 interview. “Mr. Ramsey, did you kill JonBenet?” she asked. “No, I did not.” Patsy answered the same way, saying that she couldn’t possibly kill her little girl.
A&E’s documentary mini-series supported the theory that an “intruder” was behind the 6-year-old beauty queen’s demise, which contradicts the planned 6-hour documentary from CBS which theorizes that a member of JonBenet’s family may be responsible for her murder.
One of the potential rumored culprits has been Burke Ramsey, 29, JonBenet’s older brother. He was 9 when his younger sister was killed and he addressed the speculation that he was the one who killed his sister while speaking with Dr. Phil, 66. The episode, airing Sept. 12, will finally allow Burke to tell his side of the story and how, like his father, Burke has dealt with this tragedy for the last twenty years.
What do you think about John Ramsey being so overcome with grief and pain that he wanted to die, HollywoodLifers?
