Gretchen Carlson has reached a settlement deal with Fox News. The journalist was awarded $20 million in her sexual harassment lawsuit against her former employer, a new report claims. The agreement comes just two months after she went public with her allegations that Roger Ailes sexually harassed her for years.
“21st Century Fox is please to announce that we have settled Gretchen Carlson’s lawsuit,” the network said in a statement on Sept. 6, after awarding Gretchen $20 million, according to the journalist’s website. “During her tenure at Fox News, Gretchen exhibited the highest standards of journalism and professionalism. She developed a loyal audience and was a daily source of information for many Americans. We are proud that she was part of the Fox News team. We sincerely regret and apologize for the fact that Gretchen was not treated with the respect and dignity that she and all of our colleagues deserve. We know Gretchen will be successful in whatever endeavors she chooses in the future.”
Gretchen accused former Fox CEO, Roger Ailes, of sexual harassment on July 6, and several former and current Fox News female employees have since come forward with similar claims. In her lawsuit, the 50-year-old detailed several incidents in which her boss acted inappropriately during the time they worked together, including one instance in which he told her, ‘I think you and I should have had a sexual relationship a long time ago and then you’d be good and better and I’d be good and better.’
“I am gratified that 21st Century Fox took decisive action after I filed my Complaint,” Gretchen said in her own statement. “I’m ready to move on to the next chapter of my life in which I will redouble my efforts to empower women in the workplace. I want to thank all the brave women who came forward to tell their stories and the many people across the country who embraced and supported me in their #StandWithGretchen. All women deserve a dignified and respectful workplace in which talent, hard work and loyalty are recognized, revered and rewarded.”
Two other women have also reached settlements with the company, the mag reports. Roger has continuously denied Gretchen’s shocking claims, however, he stepped down from his position as CEO on July 21.
