Crikey! It’s been 10 years since the world lost Steve Irwin, but his legacy as the ‘crocodile hunter’ continues to live on! Bindi and Terri commemorated the beloved father and husband’s death on Sept. 4, taking to social media to express their sweet sentiments.
Steve Irwin continues to make the world a brighter place, even on the 10th anniversary of his untimely death. The famous wildlife conservationist’s family is honoring his glorious life on Sept. 4, by taking fans on a walk down memory lane. His loving daughter, Bindi Irwin, 18, took to social media with a heartfelt message about the bond they have always shared. “You’ll be my hero for my entire existence. I love you more than words can describe,” she captioned a Twitter pic of her as a baby, cradled in Steve’s arm. How heartbreakingly beautiful.
His wife, Terri Irwin, 52, took the opportunity to remind everyone in Australia not to take their dad for granted on Australia’s Father’s Day. “Happy Father’s Day Australia. Hug your dad,” she tweeted, along with a picture of Steve, Bindi and their son, Robert Irwin, 12, out playing in the wild. What a beautiful way to think of others on what must be such a hard day for the Irwins.

Steve’s father Bob Irwin, also recently shared a tear-jerking note that he received from his late son in 1998. “Probably one of the most unfortunate things in a ‘Bloke’s Life’ is that it takes over 30 years to realize how essential you have been to build my character, my ethics and, most importantly, my HAPPINESS,” an excerpt from his book The Last Crocodile Hunter: A Father and Son Legacy, reads. “For the rest of my life I will reflect on the unbelievably GREAT times we’ve shared and will continue to share.” Aww!

The world lost a gem on Sept. 4, 2006, when Steve was tragically pierced in heart by a stingray barb. His fans will always remember his signature statements, like “crikey” and “ain’t she a beaut?!” Steve’s children also keep his memory alive by telling stories and watching DVDs of his escapades while filming on Animal Planet. What a legend!
