Is there anything Laurie Hernandez can’t do? The Olympic gold medalist performed an amazing aerial trick while throwing out the first pitch at a NY Mets game. You have to click through and watch it to believe it!
Call her Supergirl, because Laurie Hernandez is flying! The Rio 2016 Olympic gold and silver medalist threw out the ceremonial first pitch at the New York Mets game on Friday, September 3, and made it a special one. You didn’t think a champion gymnast would make this moment totally boring and ordinary, right?
Before Laurie, 16, wound it up and threw serious heat to the catcher at the Mets vs. Washington Nationals game at Citi Field in Queens, NY, she gave the crowd a little in-person glimpse of what she brought to the Rio Games: an aerial cartwheel! It’s just as impressive and insane as it sounds! Laurie got the ball, and casually flipped in the air as if it were as natural as walking to the plate. She straightened up and threw the pitch, and giggled. “When I found out I was throwing the first pitch, I thought ‘oh I’ll throw a flip in there,'” she told MLB.com. It comes as simple as that, apparently!
Laurie wasn’t the only member of the Fab Five to throw out a first pitch on September 3. Her teammate Madison Kocian, 19, who medaled silver in individualist for the uneven bars, did an incredible part of her routine before throwing out a pitch at the Texas Rangers game. And she threw a strike!
Up next for Laurie: dominating on the dance floor as a contestant on Dancing With The Stars. The gymnast is already practicing, and we’re pretty sure she’s got this whole thing in the bag!
HollywoodLifers, are you as impressed by Laurie’s first pitch as we are? Tell us in the comments!
