Two-time Olympic gold medalist Lauren Holiday is facing a horrific nightmare in the middle of her first pregnancy. The USWNT hero was diagnosed with a brain tumor, and is set to have major surgery. Fans offered their support to the pregnant soccer star on social media — click through to see.
Lauren Holiday, 28, was experiencing debilitating headaches halfway through her pregnancy. The former US Women’s Soccer Team champ discovered that she had a brain tumor, one that’s thankfully operable and will not harm her unborn child. Lauren is set for brain surgery, but is opting to wait until after the birth of her baby for the operation.
Lauren, a 133-times capped midfielder, retired from soccer in 2015 to start a family with her husband, New Orleans Pelicans point guard Jrue Holiday. Jrue will be taking leave from the NBA to take care of his wife and baby, as the surgery coincides with the beginning of basketball season. Clearly, this is more important. “We just ask for your prayers, really pray for my family,” Jrue told NOLA.com. “We can take all the prayers that we can get.” And that’s what fans are doing on social media:

The two-time Olympic gold medalist (USWNT, 2008 Beijing and 2012 London) is experiencing numbness on the right side of her face because the tumor is pressing on a nerve, according to Jrue. This has no effect on the baby. “Lauren has her good days and her bad days; some are better than others,” Jrue told NOLA. “She’s obviously a fighter, the toughest woman I know. That’s the reason why I married her.”
He’s right about her being a fighter. Lauren underwent open heart surgery at the tender age of three to correct a congenital heart defect. This woman can do anything!
