It looks like Donald Trump’s meeting with Enrique Pena Nieto failed to win over Mexico’s president. After Enrique spoke with the GOP presidential nominee on Aug. 30, he dissed Donald’s plan to build a wall as a serious danger to both countries!
“His policy stances could represent a huge threat to Mexico, and I am not prepared to keep my arms crossed and do nothing,” Enrique, 50, said while speaking about Donald, 70, in a television interview on Aug. 31, per Reuters. “That risk, that [real] threat, must be confronted. I told him that is not the way to build a mutually beneficial relationship for both nations.”
That was cold, President Nieto. He cleverly used Donald’s own words against him! While speaking in Ciudad de Mexico, the man who wants to “Make America Great Again” said that building his notorious border wall would be “mutually beneficial for both countries.” Seems he and Mexico’s leader will have to agree to disagree.
Enrique probably felt like he had to speak out against Trump, since he has been heavily criticized by his fellow citizens for inviting Donald to meet with him in the first place, per Fox News. The Mexican people also wanted President Pena Nieto to trash Trump for calling them “rapists” and “drug dealers,” but Enrique defended his meeting. He said it was better to speak with Donald than “cross my arms” and do nothing in response to Trump’s “affronts, insults and humiliations.”
Maybe? While Enrique thinks it was important to tell Donald that Mexico will not accept Donald’s policies, the meeting didn’t really change Trump’s tune. Hours after meeting in Mexico, Donald jumped the border to deliver an immigration policy speech in Phoenix, Arizona.
It was promised to be an important event but it turned out to be Donald doubling-down on his pledge to build the wall, swearing it would be a great wall that will be built “in record time.” He even said that Mexico would pay for it, “one hundred percent,” even though Enrique tweeted that it was never, ever going to happen. Yikes. Now, that’s humiliating.
Do you think that Donald’s policies are a “real threat” to Mexico and America, HollywoodLifers?
