The Black Eyed Peas are back — sort of! The group joined forces to recreate their 2003 smash hit, ‘Where’s The Love’ to take a stand against all the violence in the world this year, and it’s quite emotional. Plus, they’ve recruited stars like Kendall Jenner and plenty more to help spread the message.
One of our favorite songs of the 2000’s was remade and for a good reason. The Black Eyed Peas have come together after five years to bring back “Where’s The Love” and they just dropped the video September 1! The original song came out 13 years ago, and BIP managed to get a bunch of their famous friends help them recreate the track — Kendall Jenner, Mary J. Blige, Diddy, Cassie, Tori Kelly, Justin Timberlake, DJ Khaled, Usher, Nicole Scherzinger, A$AP Rocky, Jaden Smith and dozens more. Some even lent their voices to the remix!
In wake of the recent happenings around the world, BIP also had police officers, influential figures and family members of some of the shooting victims from various tragedies including, Dallas Police Chief David O. Brown, Sandra Sterling (the aunt who raised Alton Sterling), Valerie Castile (mother of Philando Castile), Officer Bob Wu, Officer Abe Capeida, and many more in the footage. Horrifying images of violent scenes that have sadly become all too familiar also flash across the screen.
“Where’s The Love?” was originally released in 2001, featuring Justin Timberlake, in response to the horrific 9/11 terrorist attacks. Will explained that after the recent tragedies in 2016, including attacks of gun violence and hate crimes, people would tell him that we need “Where’s The Again”. He even said that, “everyone was calling on us, like, we need that song again,” which is why they decided to create the remix.
The group went on to collectively explain how “powerful” millennials are and how they want the song to inspire those millennials because they have the “voice” and “the right to make a change in this moment in time.”
The Black Eyed Peas, Interscope Records and iTunes will donate all of their respective proceeds from purchases of the song in the United States to i.am.angel Foundation, a non-profit foundation that is transforming lives through education, inspiration and opportunity created by will.i.am.
