Yes, Luke Pell was almost ‘The Bachelor’ — which is probably why all of those clues the producers were dropping pointed right at him. In a new interview, the Nashville hunk reveals that he actually found out that ABC had changed their mind only 11 hours before his flight to LA.
“We were all satisfied, had agreed to the contracts and everything was moving forward,” Luke Pell told Us Weekly, adding that he was completely ready to be the next bachelor. “I was checked in to my flight to come to L.A. I got a call from producers Sunday night at about 10 p.m. They said ABC had decided to quote-unquote go in a different direction. I was supposed to fly out Monday morning at 9 a.m. I had my bags packed and everything. Most dramatic Monday ever!”
Well, that’s one way to say it. We have to admit we were pretty convinced it would be Luke, so when the Nick Viall announcement was made, it was shocking — for him too. He told the mag that they had “planned for intro filming,” and had planned a date that would feature his sister coming on and giving advice. “I met with the wardrobe guys. Everything was moving forward. Everyone on the production level was expecting it to be me, as well,” he said.
Of course, the Nashville hunk isn’t mad at all and has accepted it. “From all my years in the military, I’ve learned that some things are out of my control. I put it in the past, and I’m moving forward. It was a huge surprise, but the element of surprise and unexpected decisions is what the show thrives off of,” he said. Well, we have to give him a lot of props — and we’re hoping he’s on next season of Bachelor in Paradise!
Apparently, Nick’s story of redemption was more attractive to the producers, and it happened really quick, sources told ETOnline. “It wasn’t even a thought on the table that Nick would be the next bachelor. He had no idea they were considering him. ABC called Nick very last minute – just a couple of days before the announcement – and made him an offer,” the source said.
HollywoodLifers, were you hoping it was Luke?
