Chris Brown’s lawyer is a pro at dealing with his client’s problems, as he calmly gave an interview this morning while the singer was barricaded inside his home. Watch Mark Geragos suggest that his client is a ‘target’ for the kind of accusations he’s dealing with right now below.
“As we speak, and you’ll have seen it in the news, one of Mark [Geragos]’ clients, Chris Brown, has barricaded himself in his home,” the host of the podcast Reasonable Doubt, Adam Carolla, said as he interviewed Mark on Aug. 30. Adam went on to ask if the 27-year-old singer’s lawyer would give him “a talking to” after this incident, referring to the allegations that Chris had assaulted a woman with a deadly weapon. “I don’t know much, and it’ll be interesting to see what people say in this particular situation,” Mark said.
“I’ve had the experience at least 10 times over, unfortunately. And this kind of takes us full circle back. Unfortunately, for a lot of these guys who have kind of this wealth and celebrity at a very early age, they become targets, and so it would not surprise me. I can think back to a case he had in Vegas, same thing, that he was the target, somebody was making false accusations, we were able to prove it. So I’m always reticent to rush to any kind of conclusion until I do some kind of investigation.”
Adam also asked Mark if he’d say to Chris to surrender himself and leave his house, or to wait around until the police got a warrant. “No, you would never. There is nothing to surrender to unless they’ve got a warrant… It’s very rare when you’re going to go in and advise a client to talk to the cops.” And, as we now know, later that afternoon, Chris did in fact surrender to the police, as officers entered his house with a search warrant, and then arrested him.
Chris let authorities search his home, and around 5 p.m. the police officially placed him under arrest, charging him with the felony of assault with a deadly weapon. The singer was accused of pulling a gun on a woman named Baylee Curran at his Los Angeles home early that morning. When police responded to the incident, Chris entered a standoff with them, tossing a duffel bag out the door and saying, “Come and get me.” Looks like they did.
