Yikes! Just when we thought the Calvin Harris/Taylor Swift drama might be over for good, the EDM producer stoked the fire by noticeably leaving her name out of the ‘thank you’ section of his ‘Best Male Video’ acceptance speech at the VMAs. We have all the details, right here.
“Wow, wow! First of all, I’m so sorry I can’t be there. I have a show tonight in the U.K. or else I would definitely be there. MTV, this is crazy,” said Calvin Harris, as he accepted his award in the “Best Male Video” category at the MTV Video Music Awards on Aug. 28. His hit “This Is What You Came For” featuring Rihanna has been one of the hottest songs of the summer, and he was thrilled to be acknowledged for it, graciously thanking fans via video.

“I need to thank Rihanna from the bottom of my heart,” he continued. “You’re a superstar. Every time we worked together, you bring something so magical to the project so thank you.” He was also gushing with gratitude toward video director Emil Nava, as well as “everybody who’s supported this song, who’s watched this video.” However, he very obviously left one person out: ex-girlfriend Taylor Swift.
Months after the song was released and the couple split, it was revealed that Taylor actually wrote the hit AND sang on some of the track. She was listed as Nils Sjöberg on the song, and thus she technically also won the award. We watched with bated breath to see if he would thank his former collaborator and lover, but he didn’t! He may have just been trying to avoid more drama, but it ended up coming off as bitterness. Oopsie!
HollywoodLifers, do you think that Calvin was shading Taylor by not mentioning her at the VMAs, or was he just trying to avoid starting more drama? Share your thoughts with us!
