So sad! Juan Gabriel, a legendary singer in Mexico, passed away at just 66 years old on Aug. 28 from a possible heart attack. Get the details on Juan’s tragic death right here.
Cops were called to a place in Santa Monica on the morning of Aug. 28, where authorities reportedly pronounced Juan Gabriel dead on the scene, according to TMZ. Law enforcement were able to determine that there was no foul play in Juan’s death, as it was suspected that he died from a heart attack. To make matters even more upsetting, Juan was just 66 years old.
Although a heart attack is the suspected cause of death, Juan’s body is currently with the L.A. county Medical Examiner for further examination of what led to his sudden passing. Juan, whose real name is Alberto Aguilera Valadez, was in the middle of his “MeXXico Es Todo Tour,” so it was likely he wasn’t aware of any life-threatening health issues he may have had. He had even just performed a show at The Forum in Los Angeles two nights before his death. How heartbreaking!
After signing a contract with RCA Records at the young age of 21, Juan quickly soared to superstardom in Mexico and around the world, releasing 15 albums and selling more than 20 million records during his career that was sadly cut short. He even holds the record for best-selling album of all time in Mexico, with his album Recuerdos, Vol. II selling more than 8 million copies. Juan became known as Mexico’s leading singer-songwriter, writing more than 1,000 songs in several different genres and penning hits for himself as well as many other famous Latin artists. His biggest hit, chart-topping “Querida” (“My Dear”) is still a Mexican favorite even 30 years after its release. Clearly Mexico has lost one of its brightest stars.
We can only imagine the heartbreak in Mexico upon hearing that the Latin sensation is dead. Our hearts go out to Juan’s family, friends, and fans as they mourn the loss of such a talented musician.
