Yes! We’re so happy to announce that Beyonce took home the biggest award of the night at the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards on Aug. 28, having won for ‘Formation.’
Congrats to Beyonce for taking home the award for Video Of The Year at the 2016 Video Music Awards on Aug. 28! The “Formation” singer was given her award by Jimmy Fallon, who was already on stage impersonating Ryan Lochte. And when Beyonce got on stage, she made sure to thank her daughter, Blue Ivy, and loving husband, Jay Z. (Aww!)
“I dedicate this award to the people of New Orleans,” she said before continuing, “I’d like to thank Jonas Akerlund for directing such an incredible video. I’d like to thank everyone at MTV for honoring this song. Thank you to my fans. I love y’all. You inspire me so much. Have a beautiful night.”
Also nominated for the award were Adele for “Hello,” Kanye West for “Famous,” Drake for “Hotline Bling,” and Justin Bieber for “Sorry.” Everyone was deserving of the award, but ultimately, Beyonce came out on top.
Earlier in the night, Beyonce performed “Hold Up,” among other songs off her visual album Lemonade. Not only did she “slay,” as she said she went there to do, but she was a hard act to follow (Sorry, Britney Spears!). So we’re not totally surprised she won for Video Of The Year — it was well deserved. Kanye West even predicted she’d win when he got on stage and debuted his new video for “Fade.” Thankfully, he was absolutely right, and we never thought we’d say that.
