The Miz wasn’t feeling ‘awesome’ at the end of ‘Talking Smack’ on Aug. 22 — he was furious! The Miz and ‘SmackDown Live’ GM, Daniel Bryan, got into a major fight, with The Miz accusing Daniel of being too scared to get back into the WWE ring! Click to watch.
To be fair, Daniel, 35, was the one who first dropped the “c-word,” calling The Miz, 35, “a coward.” During the talk show following SmackDown Live!, Daniel, who used to wrestle a hard-hitting style while as an independent wrestler, said that the current Intercontinental Champion was a coward who represented “the soft WWE style.”
That was all Daniel needed to say to set The Miz off! “Let’s talk about cowards, for one second,” The Miz said, his face already red with rage. “You sit here and call me a coward? Let me tell you about a guy that he tells the WWE fans…he promises them ‘I will be back in one year’s time to reclaim [the Intercontinental belt.] But you didn’t, Daniel, did you?”
Bryan then brought up that the WWE wouldn’t medically clear him to wrestle, but The Miz said that if Bryan loves wrestling so much, he should quit the WWE and go back to wrestling “in the bingo halls” like he used to. “You’re the one who calls me the coward, but you’re the one that doesn’t get in the WWE ring.” The Miz would not let up, which caused Daniel to drop his mic and walk of the set!
Wow. During his tirade, The Miz pointed out that his style of wrestling has allowed him to stay healthy over his 10-year career, claiming that he has never been injured and out of action “for six months to a year.” Whereas Daniel had to give up his dream due to suffering so many concussions over his 16 years in the ring.
If it seems like The Miz was genuinely hurt by Bryan’s words, it’s likely because he and Daniel have so much history together. The Miz acted as Daniel’s mentor on NXT in 2009, and the two fought for United States Championship at Night of Champions in 2010. Both men would go on to headline a WrestleMania (with The Miz defeating John Cena, 39, at WrestleMania 27 in 2011.)
The Miz made sure to remind Daniel and the rest of the WWE Universe that he’s a superstar that “deserves your respect,” saying that he will remain “day in and day out, in that wrestling ring, beating people up.”
What do you think about The Miz’s reaction to Daniel calling him a “coward,” HollywoodLifers? Do you think anyone will call him that word ever again?
