Ryan Lochte is getting a lot of heat for lying about being robbed in Brazil — and Al Roker went OFF about the situation on the ‘Today’ Show on Aug. 19. Watch the weatherman completely slam the swimmer here!
“He lied. He lied to you, he lied to Matt Lauer, he lied to his mom,” Al Roker ranted about Ryan Lochte. “He left his teammates hanging while he skedaddled. There was no robbery, there was no pull over. He lied.”
Al is, of course, referring to the U.S. swimmer being caught in a crazy lie after claiming he, along with teammates Jimmy Feigen, Gunnar Bentz and Jack Conger, were robbed at gunpoint at a gas station in Brazil. Gunnar and Jack eventually admitted that the story the guys originally told was “fabricated,” and video footage from the scene definitely reveals a much different story than the one Ryan told on Aug. 14.

Originally, Ryan’s claim was that the car the men were riding in was side-swiped, and then the person who did it held a gun to their heads and stole their money. A few days later, his story alleged that the side-swipe never happened, and that the robbery just took place outside a gas station bathroom, with the gun pointed in their “general direction,” not aimed right at their heads. After Al’s slam of Ryan, Lotche took to Twitter to officially apologize for not being totally ‘candid’ about the course of events that night, and it looks like Al accepted his apology:

Surveillance footage from the gas station show that the guys actually entered and exited a bathroom — where they reportedly caused damage inside — then had a confrontation with security guards outside. Officials confirmed that one of the security guards did pull out a gun, but it was simply to control the situation because one of the men became “angry.” Authorities insist there was “no robbery.”
While Ryan left for the U.S. on Monday, before things got out of hand, his three teammates were stuck behind in Brazil, which is where Jack and Gunnar’s confession came in. Although Jimmy originally stuck by Ryan’s story, he eventually decided to settle and pay $11,000 to avoid prosecution.
HollywoodLifers, do you agree with Al’s opinion on Ryan? Or do you think he was being super harsh?
