Looks like Adele won’t be at Super Bowl LI after all! The ‘Hello’ singer shot down reports that she’s going to be the 2017 Halftime Show performer during her Los Angeles concert on Aug. 13 because the Super Bowl is ‘not about the music.’ Watch Adele set the record straight right here!
While it’s unclear what made Adele bring up the Super Bowl at her Aug. 13 Staples Center show, the 28-year-old singer had no problem declaring that she wouldn’t be performing at the 2017 NFL championship game despite the rumors that had been going around. But how could she not want to join the likes of Beyonce, Prince, and Coldplay as a Super Bowl performer? Let her tell you…
“First of all, I’m not doing the Super Bowl,” she said. “I mean, come on, that show is not about music. And I don’t really — I can’t dance or anything like that. They were very kind, they did ask me, but I said no.”
Even though Adele’s voice would surely rock any stadium the way past Super Bowl performers have, we can’t blame her for declining the huge offer. She’s less about the showy stuff and more about the music, and the Super Bowl is definitely the opposite. And let’s be honest, we can’t really see Adele riding in on a tiger the way Katy Perry did in 2015 (as awesome as that would be)!
As big of a bummer as it is for Adele fans to hear that they won’t be seeing her take the Super Bowl halftime show stage, surely the big game’s organizers are even more upset about her rejection. When The Sun first reported on Aug. 9 that Adele was a possibility for the iconic spot, the outlet said that organizers were doing “absolutely everything” to get her to sign on. It’s unclear who they were trying for as a backup, but it definitely sounds like they’ll have to keep searching for someone!
