Thomas Gibson’s time with ‘Criminal Minds’ is up. The actor was officially fired from the hit crime show after allegedly kicking a producer. Sorry, everyone. Hotchner is leaving the show for good.
“Thomas Gibson has been dismissed from Criminal Minds. Creative details for how the character’s exit will be addressed in the show will be announced at a later date,” ABC Studios and CBS Television Studios said in a statement on Aug. 12.
Since the news broke of his exit, Thomas has issued a statement. He said that has nothing but “love” for Criminal Minds and has put his “heart and soul into it for the last twelve years.” He admitted that he wished he could have seen the show “through to the end.”
Thomas’ firing comes after he allegedly kicked a producer. The fate of Thomas’ career on Criminal Minds was put into question immediately following the altercation. Thomas had initially been suspended for one to two episodes of the show’s twelfth season. After his suspension, production continued without him. But now the show is moving on without him — permanently. Thomas had been with Criminal Minds since the show started in 2005.
“There were creative differences on the set and a disagreement,” Thomas said in a statement to TMZ earlier in the week. “I regret that it occurred. We all want to work together as a team to make the best show possible. We always have and always will.”
Thomas’ exit from the show means Criminal Minds has lost two original cast members in just a few months. Shemar Moore, who played Derek Morgan, left the show at the end of season 11. Criminal Minds season 12 premieres Sept. 28. The way Hotchner is written off the show is going to be absolutely crucial in the upcoming season.
