Katie Ledecky did it again! After breaking her own record in the 400m freestyle, the decorated Olympian headed back to the pool to grab herself another gold medal for the women’s 200m freestyle on August 9! Congratulations, Katie!
At just 19 years-old, Katie Ledecky is the one to beat at the 2016 Rio Olympics, and she’s beating them all! Katie took home her second gold medal and third medal overall at Rio after her stellar finish in the women’s 200m race on August 9. Katie completed the race at 1:53.73, ahead of Sweden’s Sarah Sjostrom, who clocked in at 1:54.08. It was apparent that Katie was going to win after she came in first place by far in the heats on August 8. It was just a matter of time before she scored her medal!
Team USA certainly has a stacked roster of swimmers! Katie obliterated the competition at the women’s 400m freestyle competition on August 3, coming in at an insanely fast 3:56! She beat her best time, and broke the world record. Let’s revise that; Katie broke her own world record, and the previous 11 she set before that! Wow! What do you expect from the woman who won a gold medal when she was just 16?
Fans cheering on Team USA from home were biting their fingernails and clutching pillows as they watched Katie and the rest of the women’s 4×100 relay team fight for their life on August 6. The team did their best, but in the end they just couldn’t beat Team Australia and the sheer force of Cate Campbell! The Aussies clocked in with an impressive 3:30.65 end time. So sad for Team USA!
But clearly, Katie can shine like a diamond during the solo events! After the 200m freestyle, she’s gunning for two more gold medals in the women’s 400m and 800m races. And we really think she can do it!
