Children of celebrities often get criticized for riding their parents’ coattails to fame — but not Frances Bean Cobain! By posting a video of herself singing a cover of ‘The Middle,’ the daughter of Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love is determined to prove haters wrong. Check out her amazing pipes below.
Maybe she’s born with it, maybe it’s Hollywood. Frances Bean Cobain, 23, has her parents to thank for those stunning ice blue eyes, but her singing — that’s all on her! On Aug. 6 the rebellious star posted a video of herself singing Jimmy Eat World‘s “The Middle” track, and even though you can’t see her face, her voice is enough to prove that she’s got some serious talent hiding under her Freddy Flintstone T-shirt. Listen to her amazing voice!
Undeterred by the fact that she’s primarily a visual artist, it was only a matter of time before Frances was bit by the singing bug. Her mother was the lead singer of Hole, and her father pretty much reinvented the rock-meets-grunge genre as the lead guitarist and vocalist from Nirvana. And if that’s not enough musical influence, her godfather is R.E.M frontman Michael Stripe. Although Kurt is no longer with us, he can still hear his daughter’s voice. Courtney reposted Frances’ singing video on her profile with the caption, “I know your father is very proud of this as am I baby, I love you to the moon and back.”
If you take a peek around Frances’ Instagram, you can see she’s always been an artistic soul with a musical spirit. Her leading influences include Jeff Buckley, The Bright Eyes, and Blur. She’s also a crazy skilled drawer with a mind that resembles some of Guillermo Del Toro‘s monsters. In one drawing, Frances sketched herself eating a bowl of octopus tentacles that parallel ramen noodles, in another, she etched a demonized version of herself with blood dripping from her forehead. Whether it’s her singing or her eerie self-portraits, it’s pretty clear that Frances is putting her staple on the art scene and making her parents proud!
HollywoodLifers, don’t you think Frances is a talented singer? What other covers would you like her to try?
