Is the original Baby coming back for the ‘Dirty Dancing’ remake? Jennifer Grey admitted that she was asked to be in the ABC remake in a Aug. 7 interview. Did she accept the role or did she turn it down? Find out now!
“I was asked to do something on that show and I was flattered because I always want to be asked because it’s nice to want to be included. But for me, it would be sacrosanct for me to do it because it didn’t feel appropriate to me,” Jennifer, 56, told The Hollywood Reporter following the panel of Amazon comedy’s Red Oaks on Aug. 7 at the Television Critics Association’s summer press tour. “It feels like if you’re going to do your own thing, do your own thing. I wouldn’t say [what role was offered] but I will tell you, it wasn’t Baby!”
We can’t blame Jennifer for not wanting to be a part of this reboot. The 1987 original movie has and always will be a classic. Jennifer and co-star Patrick Swayze, who passed away in 2009, will forever be Baby and Johnny.
During the interview, Jennifer reminisced about working with her beloved co-star. “He was really strong and he was very protective and his heart was very much in it,” she said about Patrick. “It was our second movie we’d done together within a short time — we did Red Dawn first and then Dirty Dancing. He was a great dancer and he was fearless.”
The remake co-stars Abigail Breslin, 20, as Baby and Colt Prattes as Johnny. Katey Sagal, 62, Sarah Hyland, 25, Debra Messing, 47, Nicole Scherzinger, 38, and Casper Smart, 29, will also star. Unlike the recent remakes of Grease and The Wiz, the Dirty Dancing remake will be a 3-hour TV movie. ABC has not announced an air date for the Dirty Dancing remake.
