So sad. A two-year-old girl, who miraculously received a heart transplant when she was just a week old, was shot and killed with her family in an apparent murder-suicide. Willow, along with her parents Mark and Megan, and siblings Liana and Mark, are all dead, according to a new report.
Willow Rose Short reportedly died in a Pennsylvania family of five’s apparent murder-suicide after having undergone a heart transplant at one week old. She survived the transplant for two years before her entire family was found dead — all from gunshot wounds — in their Sinking Spring home on Saturday, Aug. 6, ABC6 reports.
Berks County District Attorney John Adams identified the deceased as 33-year-old Megan Short, her husband 40-year-old Mark Short, and their three children, Liana, 8, Mark, 5, and 2-year-old Willow.
Officers were called to check on the family when Megan failed to appear for a lunch date with a family member, and several calls to her went unanswered. When police arrived at the house, they made forcible entry and discovered the lifeless bodies of the five family members and a dog in the living room — all having been killed by gunshot wounds, ABC6 reports. And a handgun was found next to one of the adults.
There was also a handwritten note found, which led authorities to believe this was an act of murder-suicide. At this time, however, it’s not clear who pulled the trigger.
“This is an apparent tragic domestic incident,” Adams said Sunday, Aug. 7. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families at this difficult time.”
This is so heartbreaking. Especially considering Willow reportedly underwent a heart transplant in 2014 when she was just 6 days old. Furthermore, the family allegedly had trouble obtaining anti-rejection medication for her. So it was a miracle she survived that ordeal.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to friends and family of the Short family during this difficult time. This is so sad.
