If you’ve got a squeamish disposition, look away now. French gymnast Samir Ait Said, 26, suffered the most horrendous broken leg injury the Olympic Games has surely ever seen in Rio on Aug. 6. Click here to see the horror break, but only if you’ve got a strong enough stomach to handle it!
Samir, who won gold on the rings in the 2013 World Championships and silver in the same event in 2015, landed really awkwardly as he sprung off a vault in the men’s gymnastics qualifier, and his leg just completely gave way underneath him! Ouch! Poor Samir had to be taken off on a stretcher, but the brave soul still managed to wave to the crowd as they clapped him out of the Rio Olympic Arena.

The sound of the leg break could be heard echoing all around the arena on his landing, and we’ve never seen a medical team run to someone’s aid so quickly. He was one the ground for several minutes as they attended to him, as the crowd were gasping and whispering among themselves.
Samir’s injury was one of two serious injuries in the afternoon session. Germany’s Andreas Toba was competing in the pommel horse when he appeared to severely injure his knee on the floor exercise. He too couldn’t finish his event and was stretchered off the podium.
Sadly for Samir his Olympics is obviously over, but we wish him a speedy recovery and hope to see him competing again. After all, there’s always Tokyo 2020! Get well soon! These injuries just go to show that anything can happen in a split second, and these sports stars have to be so precise, especially in gymnastics, when competing. The margins are so fine!
