ABC just can’t get enough of Nathan Fillion — not that we blame them. The ‘Castle’ alum will officially be appearing on season eight of ‘Modern Family’ as a weatherman. Just wait — it gets better.
Nathan will play a man named Rainer Shine (yes, really), who somehow gets involved with the Dunphy’s on ABC’s top comedy, Modern Family. He will appear in multiple episodes, EP Steve Levitan announced on Aug. 4 at the Television Critics Association’s press tour in Beverly Hills.
Martin Short will also be appearing as a guest-star in episode two as promotional maven, Merv Schechter. Seriously, these names could not get any better.
Earlier in the day, ABC Entertainment President Channing Dungey was asked about the decision to announce Stana Katic and Tamala Jones‘ departure from the show, to only reveal a few weeks later the show was ending.
“That’s a case where you have things running on sort of two parallel tracks,” Channing told reporters. “We were always very up-front with the studio and the producers about the possibility that we might not be bringing the show back for season 9, but the studio has to do what they need to do in order to prepare for the possibility of season 9.”
“So they did what they felt they needed to do in order to be ready if they did get the nod,” she continued. “Ultimately for us at the network, we did not feel that it was the right thing to do to order another season.”
Well, we’re just happy we get Nathan back on our TVs. Modern Family returns to ABC on Wednesday, Sept. 21 at 9 p.m. ET. Will you be watching? Are you surprised that he’s returning to ABC so soon? Let us know!
