Channing Tatum is about to go under the sea! The ‘Magic Mike’ star is set to star in Disney’s ‘Splash’ remake alongside his ’22 Jump Street’ co-star Jillian Bell. But you won’t believe who Channing is playing!
There’s a role reversal happening in the Splash remake. Channing, 36, will be playing a mermaid (okay, merMAN) in the remake, a spin on the role that Daryl Hannah, 55, made famous in the 1984 original, our sister site Deadline reports. Jillian Bell, 32, will be taking on the role that Tom Hanks, 60, played. The idea was pitched by Jillian!
Yes, this means Channing is going to have a mermaid tail and everything. It is going to be a sight to see. How did we get so lucky? This also means that Channing is going to be SHIRTLESS! While the switching of roles caught us off guard at first, we have a feeling that Channing and Jillian will really make it work.
The original movie became an instant classic in 1984 and helped launch the careers of Tom and Daryl. It was the first movie to be released by Walt Disney Studios’ Touchstone Pictures label. Splash was even nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay!
It’s officially the era of remakes. Just a few days before the Splash remake was revealed, a Beaches remake was announced with Idina Menzel, 45, set to star. Disney also has multiple remakes lined up in the near future.
Beauty & the Beast will be released in March 2017, with Emma Watson, 26, and Dan Stevens, 33, in the main roles. Emma Stone, 27, is reportedly going to star in a Cruella de Vil remake. And there may be a Little Mermaid remake in the works.
HollywoodLifers, what do you think of the Splash remake twist? Do you think Channing will make a merman? Let us know!
