Now, that’s how you kick off the final night of the Democratic National Convention! Star Swain opened up the DNC’s finale on July 28 with an amazing rendition of the National Anthem that left everyone in Philly on their feet!
Everyone was feeling extremely patriotic after Star Swain, 34, (real name Genleah) finished her incredible performance at the start of the DNC on July 28. She was definitely the right choice for the job, and she proved it with her powerful voice! While clad in an elegant blue and white outfit, the music coming from the young woman’s mouth brought tears to eyes of some of those in attendance. She even hit the high note at the end! If this was American Idol, she would have just won — hands down.

Despite such a rousing performance, Star is not a full-time professional singer. She’s an assistant principal for the Jefferson County Middle/High School in Tallahassee, Florida (though that may change after the DNC.) She gained national attention in June 2016 when she broke out into an impromptu performance of the “Star Spangled Banner” at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C.
“I was in that moment. I just closed my eyes and started singing,” she told the Tallahassee Democrat. What started off as a family vacation with Marcus Henderson, a minister at her church, turned into world-wide stardom. “Marcus was videotaping the whole time,” Star said, and that video racked up more than 35 million Facebook views in a single month.
“I am super excited,” she said ahead of the performance. “This is an opportunity of a lifetime. I must thank all of my supporters for helping me get this far.” This is just the start, as Star will tape a performance for BET’s program “Joyful Noise.” Prior to the DNC, Star recorded a video at Jackson Bluff Road for her upcoming single, and she sang the National Anthem at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, right ahead of the junior welterweight world championship fight between Terence Crawford and Viktor Postol. It seems Star kicked off another knockdown, drag-out fight, as Hillary Clinton, 68, will now take on Donald Trump, 70, for the White House!
What do you think about Star’s performance of the National Anthem, HollywoodLifers?
