‘Sesame Street’ put 3 cast members on the chopping block! Bob McGrath, Roscoe Orman and Emilio Delgado (a.k.a. Bob, Gordon and Luis) have been fired from the beloved children’s series! Get the details!
“I have completed my 45th season this year,” Bob, 84, said at Florida Supercon, according to MuppetCast.com. “And the show has gone under a major turn around, going from an hour to a half-hour. HBO has gotten involved also. And they let all of the original cast members go, with the exception of Alan Muraoka — who is probably 20 years younger than the rest of us — and Chris Knowings, who is also young.”
Bob has been with Sesame Street since it started in 1969. He’s known for some of Sesame Street’s best tunes, including “People In Your Neighborhood. Emilio, 76, a.k.a. the Fix-It Shop owner Luis, joined the show in 1971. His character married Maria, played by recently retired Sonia Manzano.
Roscoe, 72, who played Gordon Robinson, has been on the show since 1974. Gordon and his family are some of the most beloved human characters on the treasured series. He also played Trash Gordon.
The iconic series moved to HBO in early 2016 after more than 40 years on PBS. Following the news about Bob, Roscoe and Emilio’s departure, Sesame Workshop released a statement, according to ABC News.
“Since the show began, we are constantly evolving our content and curriculum, and hence, our characters, to meet the educational needs of children. As a result of this, our cast has changed over the years, though you can still expect to see many of them in upcoming productions,” the statement read. “As we’ve stated previously, Sesame Workshop retains sole creative control over the show. HBO does not oversee the production.”
Bob, Roscoe and Emilio will be missed! They were three of the friendliest people in the neighborhood!
