The NFL star turned magician is definitely shattering doubts, along with glasses on this season of ‘America’s Got Talent.’ HollywoodLife.com chatted exclusively with Jon Dorenbos before tonight’s elimination about what gives him an edge and what’s next!
Did you think you did the best you could have done, where you nervous with it being live?
JD – It was cool. I had a great time. I love magic and everything about it. I like the interaction. And I like magic being used as a tool to connect with an audience and for some people it is singing, it is whatever it is so I had a great time. Look, everyone wants to be a rockstar and to get a standing ovation in the Dolby Theater — I mean that is a once in a lifetime! And you are always nervous but I think that is what gives you the edge. I think when you stop feeling that little nerve in your stomach it might time to do something else in life, because why be bored with it? You try to harness the nervous energy and turn it into a positive thing!
The judges were very surprised, is that the ultimate compliment?
JD – I loved it because ultimately that is what you want as a magician! You want to pull them in, you want to interact with them and have them think ‘What’s Going On? What’s Going On?’ and then you hit them with the one-two punch. So hopefully I achieved that and I hope they had a good time! I want them to be like, ‘Dude, that was cool.’ To me, magic is cool and I want to convey that in my performances!
What can we expect from you next?
JD – That’s great question! I take things one day at a time. I just want to get through this round and when tomorrow comes. We will think about the next round because I have no clue what I am going to do yet. It is a surprise and you are just going to have to wait and find out!
Do you have a secret trick that you are saving for the right time?
JD – There’s a secret trick, I just haven’t found it yet! It is a secret to all of us! Me too! Me included!
JD – You know, I have said this before and I really mean this, I don’t really worry about competition! I really don’t! I think what I have in my head can be my worst enemy or my best friend! I am going to stay true to myself and if America votes me through then great! And if not then there are a lot of great talent here, somebody here is deserving. I am going to watch and cheer them on and see where my stuff takes me!
Are you rooting for Jon?
