It’s a battle of the european soccer superpowers, as German champions Bayern Munich take on fallen Italian giants AC Milan at Chicago’s Soldier Field on July 27 at 9pm EST. Will the Germans beat the Italians, just like they did at Euro 2016? Click here to watch the full game and find out!
Now, not so long ago AC Milan were the toast of Europe. In fact, they won the Champions League back in 2007, for the 7th time in their history. Only Real Madrid has a better record. But since then, Milan have struggled financially to keep up with their rivals, finding themselves languishing near the mid-table point in their domestic league, Serie A.
Bayern, on the other hand, are having another rich time in their history as a soccer force. Not that they’ve ever not been near the top, the Bavarian powerhouse swept all aside in their Bundesliga campaign last season, and they will be one of the favorites again for Champions League glory when the season starts.
The Germans have added some incredible talent to their already impressive roster, including Mats Hummels and Renato Sanches, who were both stars of Euro 2016. Sadly, neither one of them will be available because they’re being rested after a long summer of soccer in France. And that’s the same for Thomas Muller, Robert Lewandowski, Manuel Neuer, who all represented their countries at the European Championships. But although they might look to youth for the Champions Cup, they will stay have first team players like Franck Ribery, Philipp Lahm and Arturo Vidal to rely upon.
In fact, after a long lay off, new Bayern coach Carlo Ancelotti was full of praise for French star Franck, who was endured a long injury layoff, but starred in the friendly game against Manchester City on July 20. “He played very well. I like his style, the way he focuses on the game. He is very important for us,” Carlo said.
