Yas, queen! Alicia Keys slayed with her breathtaking medley at the 2016 DNC on July 26, but first she made an important statement about unifying the party. We have all the details on the stunning performance, which included a surprise appearance by Hillary Clinton, right here!
Alicia Keys, 35, continued to prove she’s a musical force to be reckoned with on day two of the 2016 DNC located at the Wells Fargo Center. The singer was truly an ethereal beauty, as she brought the house down with her inspiring performance, even taking to the piano to show off her impeccable skills. Alicia hit all the right notes and the audience was certainly wowed by her powerhouse vocals as she sang a medley of her songs including “Girl on Fire,” “Superwoman,” and “In Common.” What a perfect playlist to celebrate Hillary Clinton’s nomination!
However, Alicia also used her stunning voice to try to unify the Democratic party. “Vote Hilary Clinton, because love always wins” she said, while encouraging Bernie supporters to switch sides. “Don’t waste your vote, vote for Hillary Clinton.” She also dedicated a song “to the mothers of the movement and all movements who have lost their sons and their daughters to senseless violence.”
After all of that, Hillary appeared on the big screen via satellite during an instrumental break in the music. The crowd went wild because they weren’t expecting to hear from her until her major speech on July 28 that will close out the convention, but she just couldn’t resist thanking her supporters for making her the official Democratic nominee for president! “If there any little girls out there… I may become first woman president but one of you is next.” So inspiring!
Although fans had to wait a staggering four years for Alicia to drop new music, it was so worth it when she released “In Common” this May. She performed the single at the 2016 BET Awards in June and needless to say — she brought the heat! Alicia played piano and acoustic guitar, showing how incredibly multifaceted she is as an artist. Looking as cool as ever, she wore an all-black ensemble with an orange zip up jacket, opting for a pair of retro round shades.
The “A Woman’s Worth” singer certainly has a full plate as she dives back into the music scene, as she’s set to be one of the next hosts on The Voice alongside Miley Cyrus, 23, Adam Levine, 37, and Blake Shelton. This is the first time the chairs will be filled with two ladies — and Alicia certainly knows the tricks of the trade so we’re looking forward to some EPIC lessons coming from the mother-of-two.
