Brie Larson is about to take on the role of a lifetime! The Oscar winner was officially confirmed as Captain Marvel at San Diego Comic-Con on July 23. Get the scoop!
Brie was finally announced as Captain Marvel during Marvel’s massive Comic-Con panel on July 23. Kevin Feige, 43, president of Marvel Studios, made the announcement and called the 26-year-old the newest member of the Marvel family, according to our sister site Deadline. How sweet!
Brie, who was also at Comic Con to promote Kong: Skull Island with Tom Hiddleston, 35, made a surprise appearance at the Marvel panel. Kevin did not say what movie in the Marvel Universe that Captain Marvel would first show up in. After the announcement, Brie tweeted a photo of herself wearing a Marvel Studios hat. She captioned the picture, “Call me Captain Marvel.”
Captain Marvel is just another amazing superhero in the Marvel Universe. Her real name is Carol Danvers. After her DNA is mixed with an alien race, Carol develops superpowers and becomes Captain Marvel.
It’s safe to say that Brie will be welcomed into the Marvel Universe with open arms. Chris Evans, 35, who plays Captain America, said at a fan convention in June 2016 that he hoped Brie would get cast as Captain Marvel. They previously starred together in Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World. We can’t wait to see these two on the big screen together!
This has been a huge year for Brie! The starlet won her first Oscar for her riveting and emotionally-charged performance in Room, alongside the adorable Jacob Tremblay, 9. The actress also got engaged to her longtime boyfriend, Alex Greenwald, 36, in March 2016.
