The terrifying shooting nightmare in Munich is over after the lone gunman who slaughtered eight people and wounded another 10 has killed himself. His body was found about a half a mile away from the McDonald’s restaurant where at least five people tragically lost their lives.
The residents of Munich, Germany can breath a sigh of relief as police have confirmed there was only one gunman who carried out the deadly massacre at a McDonald’s restaurant and a nearby mall July 22. Originally it was believed there were three shooters involved but now authorities have now confirmed it was one man — an 18-year-old German/Iranian who lived in the city for two years — who acted alone, and he’s now dead after committing suicide about a half a mile away from his deadly attack.
Munich had been on a total lockdown as police combed the city for possible additional suspects, warning all residents to stay indoors and shutting down all public transportation in hopes of not letting any of the bad guys get away. The all-clear was lifted once it was determined that the lone shooter was dead by his own hand.
While authorities have not yet disclosed how the bloody massacre unfolded, The Washington Post reports that four people were slaughtered inside the McDonald’s which was filled with children and one person was shot dead outside. Another victim died at an area hospital and it’s unclear how many people were shot inside the Olympia Mall, where the attack was first reported.
One witness recalled the horror of watching the gunman emerge from the bathroom inside the McDonald’s armed with a gun as he began to open fire on innocent children sitting in booths and eating their meals. The gunman’s identity has not been revealed but other witnesses claimed he said he was German and had a heavy southern German accent and also shouted “Allahu Akbar” which has authorities looking into whether or not this was an act of terrorism or related to ISIS.
Our thoughts go out to the victims and families of this senseless tragedy.
