This is so beautiful! After a killer performance on the ‘Today’ show, Celine Dion opened up about losing the love of her life earlier this year and how she’s motivated herself — and her kids — to be strong in his absence. And what she says to help her three sons cope is truly inspirational!
“You can’t think about yesterday because you can’t change it,” Celine Dion, 48, told Today hosts on the July 22 episode of the morning show, when asked about how she’s dealing with her late husband, Rene Angelil‘s death. And right before she sat down to chat, the singer blew audience members away with a live performance of her greatest hits. Celine looked incredible, she sounded incredible, and apparently she’s also feeling pretty great considering both her brother and her husband passed away back in January.
But even though Celine has certainly faced some hardships recently, she insisted that she’s doing well. And there’s no doubt her positivity and strength have rubbed off on her three sons: René-Charles Angelil, 15, and twins Eddy and Nelson Angelil, 5. “I’m doing really well. My kids are fine, so I’m fine. And the fact that I’m fine, they follow my strength,” Celine said on the show. The singer also revealed how she told her kids about Rene’s death, and how they keep him in their hearts every day.
“When he passed, I said to myself, ‘If I thought last week or a year ago that I was a mother, I was wrong. Because today is the day, and I’m going to have to prepare my children to let them know that today they will live with their dad in a different way,'” Celine said. “And I’m very proud of myself because to be a mom is not a job, it’s the most important thing that a woman can have to do…you are the best person for your kids and you have to show them an example. And I told them that their dad is in their hearts…they’re not looking for him, they live WITH him, through him, with him — in a different way.” Wow, talk about a beautiful perspective on death.
Celine also added that her twins say goodnight to a picture of their dad every single night — and that they’re the ones who started the precious tradition. She mentioned that they keep him very much alive in their daily conversations and through photos in their home.
“Millions of people are going through what I went through six months ago,” Celine added. “When I saw my husband for three years, not being my husband and suffering — today, I feel strong. The man that gave his best, gave his all, gave me three beautiful children, and gave me so much for the rest of my life, I know he’s in peace and he’s not suffering anymore.” We are so glad to hear that Celine and her family are doing well after such tragedy, we wish them all the best and can’t wait to see Celine back in action at her Las Vegas residency later this year!
Do you think Celine tells her kids the right thing about their late father, HollywoodLifers?
