On what would have been Robin Williams’ 65th birthday, his only daughter, Zelda, wrote a lengthy tribute attached to a touching throwback photo of the legendary actor with all three of his children. So sweet.
“Still not really sure what to do on days like today… I know I can’t give you a present anymore, but I guess that means I’ll just have to keep giving them in your name instead,” Zelda began, speaking to her late father through a caption on her Instagram on July 21.
As the message continues, Zelda reveals how she celebrated Robin’s birthday without him. “This year, I tried to help three causes you cared about in one; rescue dogs, people suffering from disabilities, and our nation’s wounded veterans, so I donated to freedomservicedogs.org. They rescue pups from shelters and train them so that they can be paired with someone in dire need of their help and companionship. Thought you’d get a kick out of furry, four legged friends helping change the world, one warrior in need at a time,” she wrote. Hopefully, this powerful message will inspire Robin’s fans to follow in her footsteps.
“Happy birthday Poppo. Shasha, Zakky, Codeman and I all love you and miss you like crazy. Xo,” Zelda ended the caption, which was included on an old black-and-white photo of her and her brothers climbing on their dad. It’s a great shot of Robin, as it shows him completely elated to be surrounded by the three people he loved more than anything.
Robin tragically died on August 11, 2014, and it was later revealed that he had taken his own life. Sadly, his wife, Susan Schneider, later shared that Robin had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease and was in the early stages when he committed suicide.
Our thoughts are with Robin’s family, friends, and dedicated fans on this difficult day.
