Oh boy. Mike Huckabee, the former Republican Presidential hopeful, spoke EXCLUSIVELY with HollywoodLife.com and claimed only 24 words of Melania Trump’s speech were plagiarized. Watch to see what else the politician shared and keep reading to learn exactly how many words were ripped off!
“I thought it was a great speech,” Mike Hucakbee, former Governor of Arkansas, said when he spoke EXCLUSIVELY with HollywoodLife.com at the 2016 Republican National Convention in Cleveland, Ohio. Mike is referring to Melania Trump‘s speech at the RNC where she endorses her husband Donald Trump as the Republican nominee for president. Since giving the speech, it has come to light that much of the speech is unoriginal and has been pulled directly from first lady Michelle Obama‘s speech during the 2008 Democratic Convention.
According to Mike, the similarities are no big deal. “She showed a lot of elegance and charm, it was just terrific. The sad thing is, there was several hours when people should have been talking about her speech and instead they were talking about 24 words out of it,” the politician shared in defense of the speech by Melania. HollywoodLife.com compared the speeches and did the math. Technically, Mike is close to being on target as 23 words in the two speeches were used in the same sequence.
The words that were delivered in the same order, according to text analysis company Turnitin and NBC News, are, “… values, that you work hard for what you want in life; that your word is your bond and you do what you say.” While that is the only passage that is identical, much of Melania’s speech used many of the same words and terms that Michelle used first. Melania lifted other phrases which total 63 words that matched Michelle’s speech according to Turnitin. That’s a few more than 24, Mr. Governor.
After the speech was given and the first accusations surfaced, Donald’s team insisted that the speech was not plagiarized. Then, speech writer Meredith McIver came forward to claim that she copied parts of the speech and that she was submitting her resignation. Then Donald answered by rejecting Meredith’s resignation! Now, Mike is saying that Melania, “delivered it beautifully and flawlessly.”
HollywoodLifers, what do you think of the former Governor defending Melania? Do you think it is no big deal that she borrowed a few words from the first lady or are you upset about the whole speech-gate? Will the plagiarism effect who you vote for in the upcoming presidential election?
