Melania Trump is NEVER going to live this plagiarism thing down! People have been talking about it non-stop since Monday’s RNC, and Laura Benanti took things to a whole new level by channeling Melania in a hilarious spoof with Stephen Colbert. You HAVE to watch it here!
Yep, Laura Benanti, 37, just went there! The actress dressed as Melania Trump, 46, for a sketch on The Late Show on July 19 and issued her version of Donald Trump’s wife’s apology for plagiarizing Michelle Obama’s 2008 Democratic Convention speech.
In the skit, Laura referenced famous quotes from The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air, Green Eggs & Ham, the McDonalds theme song and SO much more. Oh, and of course, her accent was on point!
“This is the best of times, it is the worst of times. I did not plagiarize my speech last night,” she said in the monologue. “I would never do such a thing. I would not, could not with a goat. I would not, could not on a boat. That is because I learned honesty during my humble upbringing in West Philadelphia born and raised, on the playground is where I spent most of my days. So, to those who say I stole my speech, I say, give me a break! Give me a break! Break me off a piece of that Kit-Kat bar! They may be able to take our lives, but they will never take our freedom. I am mad as hell and I am not going to take it anymore! You got to fight for your right to party! Boom goes the dynamite. Hakuna matata. Ba-da-da-da-da I am loving it.”
As we previously reported, the Trump campaign has denied that Melania plagiarized, but in comparing the two speeches, there are blatant similarities. SO crazy!
HollywoodLifers, what did you think of Laura’s spoof? Do you think Melania is at fault for the plagiarism?
