Things are getting heated at the Republican National Convention. Protests have been relatively peaceful until Day 3, when police in riot gear arrested a group of protesters who were burning an American flag when scuffles broke out. Here’s the scoop.
Yikes. After a long campaign plagued by violence, we were honestly surprised to see how peaceful the protests outside of the Republican National Convention have been. Unfortunately, the tides have turned. On July 20, day 3 of the RNC, a group of protesters from the Revolutionary Communist group began burning an American flag, and things got pretty crazy from there.
“Protesters and onlookers were gathered at the corner of East 4th St and Prospect Ave, just a block away from the Quicken Loans Arena,” an eyewitness told HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY. “Police officers and Cleveland firemen gathered and started to make a perimeter, but protesters just walked away and came back after the police perimeter had weakened.”
The insider said the Rev Coms burned a flag, and then started the “most heated confrontation at the RNC so far.” A police officer was seen shoving and threatening a female protester while the Revolutionary Communists shouted stuff like “America was never great.” The eyewitness believed the protesters had plants in the crowd, because they came at police from two sides.
Cops on horseback then came in wearing riot gear to stop the scuffle. Politico reports they were using pepper spray and force to stop the protest, and created a barricade to let delegates through to the building. They arrested “many” protesters, and loaded them into trucks before sending them away. Hopefully the rest of the RNC can remain peaceful after the scary incident.
