Aww, this is so sad. Zoe Saldana got choked up during her appearance on the ‘Late Late Show with Stephen Colbert’ on July 18, when she spoke about the tragic loss of ‘Star Trek’ cast mate, Anton Yelchin. Watch the heartfelt moment inside.
This was so touching. Zoe, 38, joined Stephen, 52, on the late-night show on July 18, to promote her forthcoming sci-fi film, Star Trek Beyond, and paid a beautiful tribute to her cast-mate, Anton Yelchin who tragically passed away in June 2016. “He had just turned 18 when we met him and he was the youngest one of the crew and I almost feel like he was the wisest one,” Zoe had said of her friend and colleague who had been a part of the franchise since 2009. “So it was a terrible loss. We’re mourning – he’s an irreplaceable person and the kindest person. And he loved what he did. So I’m here today – and the rest of the cast and J.J. and Justin – we’re here promoting the movie because he would’ve wanted that.”
Anton tragically died in a freak accident on June 19 after his car pinned him to a security gate near his home. Zoe’s sweet tribute follows a promise she made to the late actor to continue to say his name and remember his legacy. “Your life has been cut short, but I will always tell everyone about you. You were kind, present, old souled, curious, brilliant, funny, humble, honest, and undeniably talent,” she penned in a heartfelt letter on Instagram, following his passing.
During her late-night appearance, Zoe also dished on her “worry” for the upcoming presidential election and about how she manages being a mother and a major acting career. When Stephen asked her how she gets anything done with 20-month-old twin boys, the star jokingly said “caffeine” and a lot of help from family and assistants. She’s definitely a super mom!
Star Trek Beyond is set to premier in major theaters on July 22. Zoe will star as Lieutenant Uhura, alongside Chris Pine, 35, Zachary Quinto, 39, Idris Elba, 43, and the late Anton.
