A horrifying accident resulted in a driver’s worst nightmare, as a crane collapsed across all six lanes of the Tappan Zee Bridge on July 19. At least five people were injured and the accident shut down traffic in both directions! Click to see pics.
New York City traffic can be killer but thankfully, no one has reportedly died from the accident that brought cars on the Tappan Zee Bridge to a standstill. A crane fell across the bridge outside of the Big Apple on July 19, injuring five people while leaving motorists completely stranded.
The crane reportedly collapsed around 12:00 P.M. EST, and thankfully, emergency crews were quickly on the scene, according to WPIX 11. Out of those hurt, one was a crane operator and another was a construction worker. It’s unclear whether or not the three other people were injured by the falling crane or if they were caught up in a related car crash.
No fatalities have been reported so far, though their conditions were not immediately unknown. At the moment, no one knows what caused the crane’s collapse. The bridge will remain closed “indefinitely” until the crane is removed.
A brand new Tappan Zee Bridge is being built alongside the old one, which was first constructed in the 1950s. As authorities determine what caused the accident, they’ll also have to deal with any potential damage has been done to the old bridge.

“One of the questions is how much if any structural damage did it cause to the bridge and how do they get the crane lifted,” Rockland Sheriff’s Chief William Barbera told LoHud. “There might long term damage and might take hours to open the bridge.”
This isn’t the first major accident to happen to the Tappan Zee Bridge in 2016. In March, a 90-foot tugboat sank after it rammed into a construction barge near the bridge, per Fox News. Sadly, three crewmembers lost their lives in that accident. Hopefully, everyone will come out of this accident okay.
This story is still developing, HollywoodLifers. We’ll continue to update with any further details. In the meantime, we send our thoughts to those injured in this accident.
