This is so grool. Regina George is competing in the Rio Olympics! Okay, maybe not the Regina George who wonders if butter is a carb, but this is still pretty cool news. Get all the details on this star athlete who shares her name with everyone’s favorite ‘Mean Girl.’
The 25-year-old sprinter is from Chicago, just like Regina (wow, this is gonna get confusing), but at this year’s games she will be running in the 400 meter race for Nigeria, where her dad is from. OMG, her and Cady would have totally bonded over their love for Africa! But aside from their names and hometowns, are there any other similarities between Regina and Regina? Do they both wear pink on Wednesdays?? “Being fabulous — we have that in common,” the real Regina told Seventeen in a July 15 interview. We love it!
“I actually was in the movie theater when I first saw the Mean Girls movie, and I was like, ‘WHAT?’ Like, oh my gosh,” she told Seventeen. Uh, we hear ya Regina! We’d be totally freaked out too. “It sucks that she has to be the mean girl, because I’m not a mean person, but it gave me a lot of popularity when I was running track in London. Everyone was like, ‘Oh my gosh, you’re Regina George.'” So, like, did they start running track because she was running track?
The stunning athlete has a SERIOUS love for cosmetics, so much so that she always runs in a full face of makeup. The Plastics would be so proud. “If you look good, you run good,” the runner said. “I go on YouTube channels and look at makeup. Each year, I get better and better at it. That’s one of the things I love. So, getting ready for races, I look in the mirror and make myself look good there, so all I have to do is perform. You see most sprinters try to glam up. I think it’s a confidence thing.”
Our new fave Regina admitted that she, “didn’t even know [Mean Girls] was such a big movie,” at first. But she figured it out once people started retweeting her, sending her pictures and creating memes of her on the track. So, what’s her favorite Mean Girls quote? Surprisingly it’s not an RG one, but a classic from Gretchen Wieners. “I love ‘you can’t sit with us,’ because someone once made a meme of me saying, ‘You can’t split with us.'” Again, we say, grool.
HollywoodLifers, will you be rooting for Regina in the Rio games?
