Talk about progress! Presidential Barbie has debuted just in time for the 2016 election and this time she comes with a female running mate! Kids everywhere can now officially rule the world with these new dolls and the Twittersphere absolutely loves the idea! Click through for some of the amazing reactions.
“The President and Vice President dolls continue our efforts to expose girls to inspiring careers that are underrepresented by women,” said Lisa McKnight, general manager and senior vice president of Barbie for Mattel, revealed in a company statement. “We see this doll set as a timely and topical platform to further the conversation around female leadership.” Amen to that, and perfect timing with Hillary Clinton, 69, being the presumptive Democratic nominee for President!
The dolls are available in a variety of skin tones, face shapes and hair colors so each child can choose the candidates that they think best reflects their lives. The Barbie ticket — sold in pairs — will be hitting store shelves soon and at $24.99 for both dolls, that’s quite a deal!
The Presidential and Vice Presidential Barbies that we got our first look at on July 13 show a darker skinned doll in a patriotic red and white blazer with a blue pencil skirt. Her lighter skinned running mate sports a pair of intelligent looking glasses, a pearl necklace and a pantsuit (holla Hillary!), featuring a yellow jacket and black pants. Of course the Twittersphere went wild over the news, even though some users wished they could vote for Barbie over the actual 2016 Presidential candidates!
Do they have the inside track? Toys have always been early predictors of future… Remember what you built w/Lego? https://t.co/bHr6t4NEP4

I commented about the new Barbies (presidential and body types) and my mom told me to quit being liberal and that Barbie is ruined now š

Given the actual candidates in the fall, can I just vote for #Barbie instead? #SheShouldRun https://t.co/d1bI9vv4Qt pic.twitter.com/IPeo1KiG3C

New presidential Barbie has running mate, too: Barbie is not waiting for the political conventions to reveal her running mate.
