Cleveland, get ready for Caitlyn Jenner! The conservative ‘I Am Cait’ star is hitting the city during the same week as the Republican National Convention, but is she speaking at the GOP event? Click through to find out!
Caitlyn Jenner, 65, has plans to travel to Cleveland, Ohio on July 20 — the day before the Republican National Convention concludes with the likely nomination of candidate Donald Trump, 70. The transgender activist is also an outspoken Republican, and has voiced her support for a Trump presidency. Is she one of the celebrity speakers Trump promised would speak on his behalf?
Caitlyn apparently doesn’t have any plans to hit the Republican National Convention at Quicken Loans Arena, sadly. “[Caitlyn] is not scheduled to speak at the RNC at this time,” according to her rep. Instead, she’ll be hitting the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame to discuss the Republican party’s need to embrace the LGBT+ community, and fight for their rights. As Caitlyn exemplifies, LGBT+ individuals with GOP beliefs do exist.
Two days after the start of the RNC, July 20, Caitlyn will be attending a brunch hosted by the American Unity Fund. She’ll be speaking at the pro-LGBT conservative event, which is not affiliated with the RNC. Though Caitlyn has been steadfast in her support for Trump (and before that, Ted Cruz, 45), she will not be one of the much-touted celebrity speakers the GOP candidate has teased will be supporting him at the four-day presidential nominating event. Caitlyn has bigger fish to fry.
“The party conventions are like the political Olympics, and I’m excited to be headed to Cleveland to stand with my fellow LGBT Republicans and allies,” Caitlyn said in a statement to The Daily Beast. “As a proud Republican and transgender woman, I want to support courageous Republicans who advocate for LGBT freedom.”
“Our country’s nondiscrimination laws must be updated and this cannot be achieved without bipartisan support,” she continued. “Congress needs to act, along with almost thirty Republican states, to update our nondiscrimination laws. I want to do my part to persuade more Republicans to support freedom for millions of LGBT Americans.”
Caitlyn famously visited the Trump Tower in NYC, and filmed a video talking about how she used the women’s restroom; following bathroom discrimination laws against transgender people in parts of the United States like North Carolina, Trump said that Caitlyn was welcome to use any bathroom she liked. And she held him to that! She’s now going to hold the Republican party to those same standards.
