He’s with her! Bernie Sanders joined Hillary Clinton in New Hampshire on July 12, standing by her side for the first time since she won the Democratic primary. After endorsing Hillary as ‘the best candidate’ for all Americans and their needs, he embraced her in a show of support!
Bernie Sanders, 74, just put everyone – including Donald Trump, 70, — on notice: he’s going to make sure Hillary Clinton, 68, is the next president! These former rivals appeared together on the campaign for the first time, and Bernie took the chance to say that Hillary is America’s only real chance at a bright future!
“Let me begin by thanking the 13 million voters who supported me through the campaign,” Bernie said during a July 12 political rally at Portsmouth High School in New Hampshire. Bernie gave Hillary his endorsement before turning his eyes towards the coming election. “I have come today not to talk about the past but to focus on the future. That future will be shaped by [the 2016 election] more than any other event in the world.”
“This campaign is not really about Hillary Clinton or Bernie Sanders or Donald Trump. This campaign is about the needs about the people and how to address [them,]” he said. “There is no doubt in my mind that Hillary is the best candidate to do that.”
“Hillary Clinton will make an outstanding president and I am proud to stand with her today,” Bernie said at the end, giving her a hug. When Hillary took the mic, she echoed Bernie’s call for universal healthcare, action on climate change, ending gun violence in America and other progressive issues.
“We need to go big and we need to go bold. This is not a time for half measures,” she said. “I’m asking you to stand with us. You’ll always have a seat at the table when I’m in the White House. We stand together because we’re stronger together.”
The location of Bernie’s first appearance with Hillary was no accident. Bernie trounced Hillary in the New Hampshire primary, receiving more votes than any other candidate in the contest’s history, according to USA Today. By showing up with Hill in the Granite State, Bernie’s showing his most dedicated supporters that it’s time to unite and put her in the White House.
Before the New Hampshire event, Bernie let all the Bernie Bros that he was going to vote for his former-rival, saying that “the issue right here is I’m going to do everything I can to defeat Donald Trump.” Bernie doubled down on his support to trample Trump in the 2016 Presidential election, saying he knows his “supporters are smart enough to know that we do not want a bigot to become president of the United States.”
