And so it begins! ‘America’s Got Talent’ auditions are officially over, which means its time for Judge Cuts. The competition was fierce, but the judges somehow managed to cut it down to the first seven live show acts. Find out who they are right here!
The first six weeks of America’s Got Talent have been filled with excitement and countless insanely talented people, but now acts sadly have to be sent home. Twenty acts faced Simon Cowell and the rest of the judges — including guest judge Ne-Yo — in hopes of getting one of the seven live show spots in Week 1 of Judge Cuts. So who made the cut in the first week of eliminations?
First up was illusionist Hara who performed an intense routine involving fire, swords, and Hara himself locked in a little box. The look of fear on the judges’ faces proved just how nerve-wracking Hara’s act was, so when he managed to escape and shock them all right in front of the judge’s table, they couldn’t help but give him a positive review!
Family band Edgar sang a powerful acoustic rendition of The Beatles‘ “Let It Be,” and their harmonies were so amazing the performance gave me chills! Howie Mandel said Edgar “definitely” improved from their first audition and Simon said they deserve to be in the competition, so it seemed they may be through. Then again, nothing negative had been said to any of the acts who have performed thus far…how were the judges going to choose?!
Hold up — here come the criticisms! Dance crew Miniotics surprised Mel B with a routine to the Spice Girls’ “Wannabe” that Simon ended up calling “amateurish,” and jump rope crew Jumpers in Command had more than one flub that definitely didn’t go unnoticed. In addition to the flops, some other acts like John Ferraro (aka the Human Hammerhead) and Tarzan look-alike Jon Call were a bit too crazy to believe that they’d be through.
The youngins of the night, 14-year-old singer Brennley Brown and 13-year-old comedian Lori Mae Hernandez, took the stage back to back, but one stood out over the other. While Brennley sounded great, Lori charmed everyone once again with her hilarity. She even threw some shade at Caitlyn Jenner, which had everyone shocked — but cracking up!
Tightrope walking couple Duo Guerrero put on yet another breathtaking show, this time featuring a blindfold and a jump rope. And to top it all off (literally), they balanced on each other while walking the rope for an epic finish! Then NFL star/magician Jon Dorenbos gave a magical definition to “epic finish” when he did yet another jaw-dropping card trick that the judges couldn’t believe — and made first-time viewer Ne-Yo hit his golden buzzer!
Next The Passing Zone (John Wee and Owen Morse) performed their most dangerous stunt to date, which involved knife throwing and a dunk tank…oh, and Mel and Howie. They managed to keep Mel safe from knives and dunk Howie, it seemed worthy of at least some consideration for the live shows!
Singing acts Julian Davis and the Hayburners and Raii & Whitney Smith pleased the judges with their performances, but Ronee Martin was the one that stole the show. Simon’s face and critique said it all!
Closing it out was a cappella group Linkin’ Bridge, who completely blew everyone away with their version of Lynyrd Skynyrd‘s “Free Bird.” Combine their insane voices with their inspiring story and there’s no way they’re not getting one of those six remaining spots!
After all of these, we were certainly glad we didn’t have to make any decisions! And your live show finalists from Week 1 of Judge Cuts are…
Ronee Martin, The Passing Zone, Lori Mae Hernandez, Hara, Linkin’ Bridge, Edgar, and the Golden Buzzer recipient Jon Dorenbos! Congrats to everyone and we’ll see you at the live shows!
