Unless you’ve been living under a rock, then you’re well aware of how the new mobile gaming app, Pokemon GO, has pretty much taken the world by storm. So much so, in fact, that app players are throwing down major bucks to purchase more balls. Even John Mayer, 38, blew $100 on July 10 because he’s so addicted to the game — check it out!
Late Sunday evening, John posted a photo of the app asking him if he’d like to “buy 14,500 PokeCoins for $99.99?” And he captioned the shot with his answer: “YES I DO.” Obviously, that’s a lot of money, but John didn’t seem to hesitate when making the purchase. He must be really into the game. But so are so many others.
One Instagram commenter wrote, “hahahahahhahahahaha good for you.” And another said, “Let’s hang out and play Pokemon in Pittsburgh!”
“The addiction is real,” one commenter said, and we couldn’t agree more.
Since its release, Pokemon GO has cost people their jobs, helped someone discover a dead body, and more. And yes, we’re being serious. Sonny Truyen was fired from his job after posting about the game on social media. He was annoyed he couldn’t play the game (it’s not yet available in Singapore). “You can’t f***ing catch pokemon in this piece of f***ing sh*t country,” he wrote on Facebook — he even got into a virtual war with locals. Unfortunately, the CEO of his company 99co, saw it and fired him for “rude behavior on a Facebook thread.”
Yes, people are super invested in this game. And John’s new Instagram post is a great example of that.
