Portugal’s Euro 2016 final win means so much to Cristiano Ronaldo. The sexy soccer player, 31, clutched the Euro 2016 trophy protectively after the game and refused to let it go. Cristiano was unable to play most of the game after hurting his knee, but Portugal managed to pull off a miraculous win without him.
After Portugal was awarded the Euro trophy, Cristiano posted an Instagram photo of himself hugging and kissing the coveted trophy. “I always dream to win this title,” he captioned the picture, along with a series of happy emojis.
Cristiano posted more photos as the team headed back to Portugal. The soccer player just couldn’t stay away from the trophy. On the plane, Cristiano held the trophy in his arms, with his head gently leaning on the side of the trophy. “Te amo,” he captioned the pic, which means “I love you.” Aw!
Cristiano reportedly made an “unbelievable” speech at halftime. “In half-time, Cristiano had fantastic words for us,” teammate Cedric Soares said, according to ESPN. “He gave us a lot of confidence and said ‘listen people, I’m sure we will win, so stay together and fight for it.'”
Cristiano was injured early on in the game after a collision with France’s Dimitri Payet. Despite his injury, Cristiano tried to keep on playing. At around 25 minutes him, he collapsed on the field at the Stade de France. He was taken away on a stretcher and couldn’t play the rest of the game. Portugal ended up beating France in the game’s final moments 1-0. The win is Portugal’s first major trophy.
