The Portugal captain was forced to leave the Euro final after only 25 minutes. He was injured after a collision with Dimitri Payet in the first 10 minutes of the game. He tried to keep on playing for his beloved team, but the pain just got to be too much.
As he sat on the field, a moth came up and settled on his eye. It was such a crazy moment! Cristiano broke down in tears over the pain and the realization that he was going to have to leave the game. He wanted to play in the Euro final so badly! He was taken out of the stadium on a stretcher to seek treatment.
Even though he’s injured at the moment, Cristiano has no plans to retire. A day before game, Portugal’s manager, Fernando Santos, shut down the rumors of Cristiano’s retirement. “He’ll play for another six, seven, 10 years,” Fernando Santos said, according to ESPN. “I don’t know. But tomorrow won’t be his final match.”
Cristiano’s going to want to recover and get back on the field. His soccer career is nowhere close to being over. Get well soon, Cristiano!
